The event was part of the two-day congress “Building with Existing Contexts: Construction”. Professors and students from over 55 architecture faculties at German colleges and universities came together to discuss the challenges and potential of building with existing structures in a stimulating atmosphere.
The background: continuing to use buildings instead of demolishing them is the order of the day. However, in order to professionally renovate existing buildings, a sound planning basis and a deep understanding of historical construction methods are required.
This is exactly where the BmB archive comes in: it was conceived and created by the Chair of Building with Existing Structures and Building Construction and offers a unique knowledge base with 1,600 selected articles and around 3,400 structural drawings from 35 specialist books from the years 1875 to 1975. The archive enables a precise analysis of building constructions in existing buildings even before a component is opened.
